Hen Cloud Cottage is right in the heart of the famous Roaches. There are numerous beautiful walks around the cottage, some of which start right at the front door. We can give you advice and suggest routes to climb, walk or run! You’ll soon love The Roaches as much as we do.
Ye Olde Rock Inn is within walking distance of Hen Cloud Cottage. The pub serves evening meals and wonderful hand-pulled ale.

Buxton is an attractive market town just a few miles north via a dramatic drive. The famous Buxton Opera House, the Victorian Park and some small interesting shops in the Cavendish Arcade as well as Poole’s Cavern are all worthy of exploration. Turning south from the cottage is Leek, another attractive market town with its numerous antique emporia.
Nearby villages include Alstonefield, Blackshaw Moor, Earl Sterndale and Longnor as well as Gradbach and the highest village in England, Flash. Further afield lies Bakewell, famous for the Bakewell Pudding (not tarts – Lorna will explain) and Tideswell, with its Cathedral of the Peak and, as seen on TV, The Tideswell School of Food.
If the thrills and spills of Alton Towers is your thing, Hen Cloud Cottage is in easy reach, and when you’ve had your fill, you can retreat to our calm and tranquil cottage.
If you can’t get your fill of attractive landscapes, then the Goyt Valley is worth visiting, as is the Macclesfield Forest or the spectacular Chrome and Parkhouse Hills.
